Park was chosen mayor of Seoul in 2011 and chosen to his 3rd and last term in June of last year.

As member of President Moon Jae-in’s liberal Democratic Party, Mr Park was supposedly under consideration as a prospective governmental hopeful in the 2022 elections.

With his re-election last year, Mr Park became the very first mayor of the city to start a 3rd term. He had brought his history as a civic activist and human rights legal representative into his period as mayor, and was an outspoken critic of social inequality and corruption in South Korea.

As a lawyer, he was credited with protecting the nation’s very first unwanted sexual advances conviction.

He encountered the former president, Park Geun-hye, freely supporting countless people who objected against her in 2017 and 2017, before she was eventually charged and put behind bars, on bribery and other charges.
